What do you think of spot cleaning toys, do you put them in the wash anyway?

i just dont think spot cleaning can do the job.. does the wash really ruin them? has anyone done it?What do you think of spot cleaning toys, do you put them in the wash anyway?
Depends on what you are washing. I think dish washer safe toys are excellent, because the dish washer does sanitize a little better than spot cleaning even with clorox cleanup.

BUT, washing some things in the dish washer or clothes washer can create some issues depending on what it is. Like stuffed animals and pillows depending on size and material dont always get dry well in the center which could create mold.

But, in general, I think as long as you are using lysol and something santizing like clorox cleanup or the lysol wipes, that you are probably as clean as its going to get. What do you think of spot cleaning toys, do you put them in the wash anyway?
all depends on what the toy is and what you are trying to clean up. I have been known to use the hand tool part of a bissel carpet cleaner on stuffed toys that would not survive cleaning in the washing machine. Pet cleaners are good for spraying things that have been barfed on because of the enzymes breaking it down to never smell again. Goo-gone works wonders for removing crayons on hard surfaces and rubbing alcohol in large doses works on things like carpet. search online and you can find a solution to remove almost anything without destroying things. in general though, if you must use the washing machine put it on delicates and don't put the item in the dryer, the heat will melt the fur on the stuffed animals.. sadly though it means it takes forever to dry and never quite seems right again.
It depends on the toy. Most stuffed toys and animals I stick in a pillow case, close it and wash. But if its a hard toy, like a ball or something, I use something like lysol wipes or Clorox anywhere cleaning spray.

  • How should I protect my nails when I paint them/ or get them done when I wash dishes or cleaning?

Regular household rubber gloves are your best bet for protecting your nails and the polish. The thin doctors office type gloves will keep the water and chemicals off but don't provide much protection against chipping. If you need to do a task which will require applying lots of pressure with your fingers such as hard scouring you might even put a small bit of a cotton ball in the tips of the fingers of the gloves, especially the thumb and first two fingers of your dominant hand. This also gives the glove some protection against being punctured. How should I protect my nails when I paint them/ or get them done when I wash dishes or cleaning?
You should wear house hold rubber gloves. Now, you may not think they're especially attractive, but you can decorate them by adding lace, bric-a-brac or those little colored fuzzy balls you get at the craft store . I prefer the lace, and if you get one of those old fashion maid outfits to wear with your stylish household rubber gloves you'll not only be protecting your nails you'll be looking sexy as hell while doing it. Just ask my friend Sammoholman. How should I protect my nails when I paint them/ or get them done when I wash dishes or cleaning?
    Get rubber gloves

    %26lt; http://www.thelatexstore.com/proddetail.鈥?/a> %26gt;
wear gloves, I think the latex kind used at doctors offices work best and use a mild soap like Ivory or something natural like Ecover or Seventh Generation.
All your answers can be solved by not using chemical cleaners. I never use chemical cleaners. Therefore I don't need rubber gloves. Go Green.
You should definitely wear rubber gloves to protect your nails.

At the dry cleaner's, when they starch clothes, does this clean them, or do they need to be washed first?

I've never used dry cleaning before and I'm a little confused. I dropped off 4 brand new dress shirts and asked for them to be cleaned. They said they usually just starch them. Should I wash them first, or does the starching process actually clean them?At the dry cleaner's, when they starch clothes, does this clean them, or do they need to be washed first?
~~Starch does not clean material. They should be laundering them first.~~At the dry cleaner's, when they starch clothes, does this clean them, or do they need to be washed first?
At the cleaners I work we can do it one of two ways: A. Spray starch on already clean clothes while pressing them. OR, B. We can use liquid starch when we wash them. The choice is up to you.
they wash them, starch them second..I am surprised someone still wants a starched shirt

I washed a dry-clean only wool sweater. It smells awful! Now, what do I do? ?

A complete accident, I am a total idiot. I didn't dry it, I let it air-dry instead, but the smell is awful. What can I do? I washed a dry-clean only wool sweater. It smells awful! Now, what do I do? ?
wash it again in very cold water and the rinse it in very cold water with a little sweet smelling fabric softener. Squeeze out as much water as you can then roll it in a big bath towel, after about an hour take it out of the bath towel - lay it on a flat surface with another dry bath towel under it. Make sure there is plenty of light and air on it during the drying process. Once it is dry, the smell should be gone.

If not rub a bit of baby powder through it and then shake it off in the open air.

Good luckI washed a dry-clean only wool sweater. It smells awful! Now, what do I do? ?
Some wool smells like wet dog(or maybe sheep) when it's wet. The more natural the wool, the more smell. The smell should pretty much go away once it's really dry, and once you've worn it a couple of times. Don't put it in the dryer unless on air only, no heat, not for very long and maybe not even then. The dryer action can shrink some wool. If you can, I'd put the sweater outside in the sun for half a day. Failing that, something like febreze or a linen spray might help the smell, and if you wash it another time, you could put a little of either of those in the rinse water .
It won't be related to the dry-clean tag: wool sweaters are generally hand-washable unless they're dyed with a colour that runs. (Manufacturers put ';dry clean'; on the tag to prevent people from machine-washing them and shrinking them, then demanding a refund.)

The only thing I can think of is that it stayed wet for long enough that it developed mildew. If this is the case, what you can do depends on the sweater's colour and whether you shrunk it in the machine. (If so, it's not really worth dealing with.)
have you try fabric fresher i would let it sun for several hours then spray it and then let it air out real good. if that should help then i wound spray it again and put a bag over it wait a liile while and check it.i would like to hear from you if it works or if you fine something esle that works.

    good luck

When cleaning & washing things, how important is it to use hot water, as opposed to cold or warm?

Does HOT water REALLY help kill more germs, when cleaning around the house? When cleaning %26amp; washing things, how important is it to use hot water, as opposed to cold or warm?
With some of new Washing Detergents, like the new Tide that I bought it is made especially for use in cold water. It save you money and works just as well in cold water. You just have to read the directions on the products before you read them. I also buy the new Clorox Green Works Cleaning products that are all natural and you don't have to use hot water with them and they have anti baterial cleaners in them.

Peace %26amp; Love :)When cleaning %26amp; washing things, how important is it to use hot water, as opposed to cold or warm?
Hot water dissolves grease whether it's on dishes or bed linens or clothing. :) I've lived with people who use cold water for everything and it's pretty disgusting. Even the washing machine gets a ring around the inside where the body oils cling to the drum itself.

One roommate (sister-in-law with biiiiig issues) refuses to wash her bedsheets - says she's ';not done using them'; whatever that could mean. It's going on three years now and the smell wafts out of her room (she won't close her door) and into the rest of the house. It's truly disgusting as well as unhealthy considering the human body sheds approximately one half pound of dead skin cells each year. Do the math and gag.

Common sense dictates that hot water is used to really clean things, but hot water will also fade some colored clothing, sheets and towels, so it's personal preference. BTW: I can always tell when people wash their clothings in cold water, there's a certain smell to items with trapped grease and body oil. Yes, I am a stickler for clean! :D

UPDATE BELOW: 1.5 pounds per year per person, approximation. Source cited below.
The best thing to do general cleaning around the house is hot (not boiling) water and soap. And do it often. Just like washing your hands with soap and water is the best way to clean them.

Cold water doesn't cut grease very well so the warmer the water the better when cleaning greasy stuff.

Bleach is good to use if someone is ill as it will kill most germs but it is not necessary for general every day cleaning.

When washing clothing, the detergents used now days is very efficient with cold, hot, or warm water. It would depend on the dirtiness of the clothing. With the heavily soiled cottons probably becoming cleaner with hotter water.
I guess there's a differing of opinions here.....hot water doesn't kill germs at all. It takes something like clorox OR a water temperature held at the boiling point for 10 minutes to actually kill germs. I should know ~ my dad owned a creamery and it was my job to clean out the milk tanks and send a bacterial analysis over to the labs to make sure the tanks were sterilized property.

This is why moms used to boil their whites and diapers in the old days before clorox ~ it was the only way to disinfect those dirty clothes. This is also why home canners have to boil their canned produce for a certain period of time, and why extension officers recommend boiling counter-thawed food to ensure that surface bacteria has been killed.

The only purpose in using hot/warm water is that it allows the soap to work more efficiently at breaking through grease and grime, and wash those germs down the sink. That's it :)
When comes to cleaning dishes warm water is all that require but Bleach works best in killing germs so a little bit to some warm water and it helps

    For cleaning whites.

I think HOT WATER works best remove dirt and tough stains.

but when comes to stains as soon it try to forms rinse out and it comes out usually without a problem with cold.
Yes definitely. You need to using some antibacterial cleaner otherwise. When washing dishes by hand then you must use the hottest water you can and that is why it is best to wear gloves.

Ok, you need an old toothbrush and some detergent.

Laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, or shampoo should work.

Plain water might work also, but detergent + water will be better.

Take the pants and work over a sink. Use cold water to begin with.

Wet the toothbrush and scrub with water. Then put a bit of detergent on the toothbrush and keep scrubbing. The stain should start to loosen. Keep rinsing the toothbrush and scrubbing until the stain is out. Shouldn't take long. Make sure everything (stain and detergent) are rinsed out. It's ok to use warmer water once the stain is out but hot water will set a blood stain making it hard to remove.

Hang the pants up to dry using a hanger and clothes pins, allowing 6-8 hours. Use a hairdryer on the wet spot if you're in a hurry.
    How to Remove Blood Stains

Blood stains are permanent once they set. Removing them before the item is washed and dried is essential. This is an incredibly simple and easy method that requires no fancy stain removers!

All you need is cold water and good old fashioned soap. Liquid soap is easiest, but bar soap works as well.

    Steps

    Simplest Method

Using only COLD water dampen the stain.

Rub salt into the area (fold the stain in on its self and rub the fabric together to save time and effort.

When the blood is nearly gone just throw the garment in a normal wash.

    Soap Lather Method

Wet the stained area in cool or cold water.

Rub a generous amount of soap or shampoo right into stain.

Scrub the area hard between your fists, with your palms facing each other.

Work up a good lather. Add more water if needed.

Rinse in cold water and repeat until the stain is gone. Do not use hot water. Hot water makes the stain set in.

If the hand washing with soap does not immediately get the blood out, pour ammonia straight on most items of clothing--it will NOT damage the fabric like bleach will. It will not fade your clothes unless the dye in the fabric is not permanent or tie dyed or batik.

The blood stain will magically disappear.

    Hydrogen Peroxide Method

Fill a bowl with Hydrogen Peroxide.

Put the clothing with the stain into the Hydrogen Peroxide.

Let it sit for 15-20 minutes.

Remove the stained clothing from the Hydrogen Peroxide.

    Rinse it in cool water.

Ten minutes will work fine if the stain is pretty light or mild. If it's a small garment, you can also use a sandwich bag.

    ';Natural'; Method

This may be difficult for use in large areas.

Gather some spit in your mouth.

    Spit on the blood-stained area.

    Rub the stains out.

    Rinse with cold water.

The enzymes in spit used to help digest food also degrade the proteins in blood that make it so difficult to clean. This method works well, but it is also recommended to wash with cold water and use stain removers. It works well on not only items of clothing, but on rugs.

    Toothpaste Method

    Rub in toothpaste and spit.

    Rinse with cold water.

    Repeat if necessary.

    .............Tips.............

Generally, the method above will work; however, if it does not, try soaking blood-stained clothing in a solution of one part ammonia to five parts water for 15 minutes. Then put the stained clothing in a washing machine and launder as usual.

Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile works like a charm. You can also use Murphy's Oil Soap. Real soap, not petroleum-based detergent (like dishwashing liquid), is the key.

Of course, the sooner you get to it, the better and faster this method works.

Hydrogen peroxide may be useful as well. The peroxide will start foaming when it is in contact with blood. When it stops bubbling, either the blood is gone or the fabric is too wet and needs to be wrung out. Dilute it with 50% water.

For hard, non-porous surfaces, it is more efficient to saturate a blood spot with a 10% bleach mix and then wipe away. This will disinfect and clean at the same time.

In addition to the peroxide, and the soap, you can use club soda. Soak the spot in club soda for 30 minutes while you do something else. The remainder if any will be light yellow, wash the yellow with a spot remover such as Shout.

Resolve Carpet Cleaner sprayed generously, preferrably totally saturated) on the bloody area before throwing it into the washing machine with detergent and cold water. This should remove the most impossible looking blood stain. The quicker this method is done, the better (best before it dries). However, if you can't get the Resolve on immediately, you can use cold water to make the blood stain damp.

    .............Warnings.............

Do NOT use warm or hot water - the stain will set for good, because the hot water will cook the proteins in the blood. If you'd like to wash the garment in warmer water, thoroughly remove the stain in cool water first.

Hydrogen peroxide may bleach and/or weaken certain fabrics, and can cause a stain itself. Take care not to let the foam spread outside the original stain area.
Shampoo take out blood- no kidding! This really works. Put uncolored shampoo directly on the stain and scrub with your fingers. You'll see right away as the blood starts to wash out. Rinse with cold water and gently wring out. Repeat this process until the stain is gone. Don't dry them or use heat until the stain is out completely or it will set. You can also use shampoo in the washer. I will dab some on my undies and rub it in just before I throw them in the wash and then wash my clothes as normal with detergent. I promise this will work!

Warning: I used green colored shampoo on a pink shirt once and it stained the shirt, got the blood out, but the green stained the shirt. Use white or clear shampoo. Any hair shampoo will work.
scrub the stain with SALT and COOL water. Just plain table salt, pour it on the stain, and don't be stingy with it. rub it together real good, get as much out as you can, then wash in cool water. Don't use hot water because it will set the stain in. check it before you dry it to make sure the blood came out before you put it in the dryer. (If it didn't come out -repeat the process) If you dry clothes in the dryer with stains in them the heat will set the stain in and it will NEVER come out.

It's a lot easier to get out if you don't let it get dry first, But this always worked for me, for ANY type of blood stains.

    Good luck!

    Gramma
use COLD WATER and some soap with a little bleach (if white or light colored pants) and let soak. (Dish soap works well). Let the pants soak for awhile - again, in cold water (hot water sets the stain) and scrub, then soak and scrub again. Let hang dry or blow dry the spot with a blow dryer for awhile.
You need to soak them in Colour safe bleach (like Napisan...I'm not sure what the equivilent would be in your country) for atleast 2 hours then hand scrub. If stain is still visible wear something else to school and let it soak ALL day, then put it in the wash for a cycle.
well if the pants are white then simply poor some bleach on a towl and scruch but if they are not then you really cant unless you just try scrubbing it sooo good luck
As a couple of answerers already stated, cold water and soap.
Peroxside works best on blood it take only a few seconds good luck
peroxide works awesome on blood stains

Club soda and scrub. How to clean black ink from washed pants (jeans or Kaki)?
Try using a bar of Ivory soap on the dampened pants and scrub with a brush (a nail brush works well). It won't hurt the pants if it doesn't work. The club soda suggestion is also a good one and should be attempted. Before you try anything stronger do a test area on the inside waistband so you don't ruin the pants. Good luck.
    Hairspray. Seriously. It works
try vanish o2. it works. but make sure you use it according to the instructions.

Can I use 'softsoap' hand washing soap to clean pieces (or in general the entire cage) in a budgie cage?

Or is that not safe for them? Can I use 'softsoap' hand washing soap to clean pieces (or in general the entire cage) in a budgie cage?
You can use dish soap or hand soap to clean the cage, toys, dishes etc. It will not harm the bird as long as the items are fully rinsed off.

Dishes: Food and water dishes should be washed in hot, soapy water, and dried thoroughly. Do not clean the dishes in areas where food is prepared. To provide more cleaning power, some people wash them in the dishwasher or use a disinfectant. Be sure no trace of soap or disinfectant remains on the dishes. The food dishes need to be absolutely dry before adding food, since damp seed or pellets can quickly mold. To avoid waste, fill the dishes with only the amount the bird will eat until the dishes are cleaned again.

A good alternative is to have two or more sets of dishes, so while one set is being cleaned, the other set can be used in the cage. Stainless steel or high impact plastic dishes are recommended since they clean easily and can withstand repeated washings, hot water, and disinfectants.

If you use a water bottle, use a bottlebrush to clean it thoroughly. Again, having two or more bottles available often makes cleanup easier. Check the bottle to make sure the ball is loose and works properly.

Accessories: If you have a birdbath in the cage, it should be removed, washed in hot soapy water and/or disinfectant, rinsed very well, and refilled with fresh water.

Any accumulations of droppings on perches or toys should be removed.

Remove any seeds or loose droppings from the cage. Scrub the cage with hot soapy water. Can I use 'softsoap' hand washing soap to clean pieces (or in general the entire cage) in a budgie cage?
no no no don't ever use sopas. Just get a clean rag and wipe it down with steamy water. Soaps can kill us.
I don't suggest useing products as human soap, because they have germ killing things that are powerful to germs, and depending on how good your budgies immune system is, that'll depend. If you are looking for something that will help get the built-up of things off, try useing water and poop off cleaner, it works very well.
You need to use hot water and then it is ok. Just be sure it is rinsed very very well.
As long as you rinse it well, I don't think it will do any harm.

I use an old toothbrush and shampoo or soapfree bodywash.
I wouldn't recommend it,however for the cage I found a site that recommends using 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water. An excellent place to ask these sorts of questions is called tailfeathers which deals with birds and I have found it realy helpful.
I don't recommend using soap of any kind to clean your cages. For my budgies and my cockateils I use a sink full of hot water to soak the perches in, then i use a scrub brush (that i don't use for anything else) to clean off the debris with. I then put my parts in the dish drainer to dry. I wipe out their cage with a clean cloth using only hot water also. This is the safest way... I learned the hard way. I accidentally lost one of my budgies when i was a new bird owner by washing their feeding dishes with mild dish soap. I hope this helps you.
I would tend to stay away from hand soaps or spray cleaners. Both can have nasty chemicals in them that may upset the birds. I would actually use Dawn dishwashing soap (SPECIFICLY Dawn, no others) not straight, but mixed with a little water.

The reason I would use that is I know for a fact that it causes the least problems when used on birds. Dawn has been used for de-oiling bird species after an oil spill for over 20 years now, and has proven safe to use.
I suggest you use a mild dishwashing liquid - I know that's safe. and rinse well.
i use water vinigar and a bit of bicarb. i just put it in a spray bottle and use it that way. but when the whole cage needs to be cleaned use hot water instead of cold.

the spray is good for cleaning little accidents around the house.

Can you wash feather pillows, or do they need to be dry cleaned?

My mom has a feather pillow that she uses on the couch, and it's gotten a tad smelly from the use, and the cats laying on it.Can you wash feather pillows, or do they need to be dry cleaned?
Care and Storage of Your Pillow

    Use a Pillow Protector

Pillows should be covered with pillow protectors in addition to decorative pillowcases. These protectors, which often have a zipper closure, provide you an additional layer between the pillow and a pillowcase.

    Washing

If the pillow you have selected is machine washable (check the care label), please follow these easy steps:

Wash with a mild detergent on a warm water/gentle setting

After the wash cycle is complete, rinse the pillow 2 additional times (to rid the pillow of any soap that may still be in the pillow. Then spin the pillow two additional times (to rid the pillow of excess water.)

Dry the pillow completely on a low heat setting. For pillows with internal chambers, you may need to dry the pillow for four to six hours. Between cycles, remove the pillow and hand fluff. Note that pillows may still be damp inside even when they feel dry to the touch. Any lumps or clumps of fill indicates dampness; continue to dry until you are sure there is no moisture left in your pillow.

Between washings, the pillow can be refluffed on an air fluff setting in the dryer. Include a couple of clean tennis balls and a fabric softener sheet for extra fluff and a fresh smell. =)

Scroll down to pillows for more info...Can you wash feather pillows, or do they need to be dry cleaned?
I believe you can wash them they just can not be put in the dryer. My mom washes her feather down blankets all the time, then hangs them to dry outside (when it is not raining).
dry cleaned- same with down comforters
yes you can wash them.just be sure to dry well in the dryer with some tennis balls.it helps to put them in the sun for a while.....
I got this feather pillow from my M-I-L when I was a new bride. I hated it .

the feathers kept sticking my eyes and my cheek :(

I threw it in the washer. some feathers fell out. Happily,

I threw it in the dryer with a tennis shoe ! :)

I must have dried that damn thing for 2 hours

it only lost about a cupful of feathers :(

I am still washing that pillow 2wice a year. and that was 20 years ago. :(

secretly...I think she keeps replacing it every 2 or 3 years..

or is it common for yellow stripes to turn into blue stars???
Okay I work in the drycleaning industry and I know you can wash a feather pillow just make sure that you put it in the dryer and let it dry all the way. When you pull it out of the dryer for the first time smell it, if it smells at all mold-like then keep drying it.
I would not wash it. I did that once to one of my husbands feather pillows and we had to throw it out. have it dry cleaned.
You can wash them at home even though I'm sure the label will tell you not too. Just make sure that the pillow is well sewn up (no holes or loose seams etc) as the last thing you want is an explosion of feathers in your washing machine! Also, make sure that it is completely dry before you bring it back in.

  • What domestic product (eg washing up liquid/bleach)can I use to clean oil leaks off my drive ?

I have several oil spots on my drive as a result of an oil leak which I did not have chance to fix for several days. Is there a product in my kitchen for example which I can use to clear them away or do I have to get a special type of cleaner? What domestic product (eg washing up liquid/bleach)can I use to clean oil leaks off my drive ?
soap and water for fresh stains, for old ones a solvent like keroseneWhat domestic product (eg washing up liquid/bleach)can I use to clean oil leaks off my drive ?
Make a paste of tide or laundry detergent and water and gob it on the oil stain. The next day wet the area again and scrub with a out door broom or scrub brush. The really black oily stain might take several applications. Then spray with a strong stream of water from a garden hose. Pressure washer will get it out quickly with only a couple drops of dish washing liquid rubbed onto the stain.
Spray spots with WD-40 and wipe clean, or try Brake cleaner witch you can but at auto parts store, spray and wipe clean.
the best and cheapest solution i have ever come across is regular kitty litter( don't buy the stuff for multiple cats). just sprinkle some on the area where you want to get rid of the stain and use the toe of your boot to grind the cat litter into the stain. the cat litter will pull the stain out of concrete and keep it locked in the litter. you can sweep it up and use it again or throw it away.

when i get oil spill at work,i cover the spillage with sawdust, rub it in with a brush, dustpan it up,if you have a carparts shop near, then call in there, they'll have something.
Go to a parts store and buy a bag of floor dry. It will look like cat litter. Pour floor dry on the spots and rub it in with a flat piece of wood. Sweep up the dust and throw it away, works really well.
cat litter helps soak it up
Fairy liquid degreaser neat should do it, if not look for a productg called Teepol.
You could buy a special purpose-designed cleaner, but why bother with that expense when you can cheaply and effectively deal with the spillage using a combination of household items. Try this 4-point plan:

    1) Cover the affected areas in a thin sprinkling of table salt

    2) Now pour vinegar over this: 2ml per square cm as a rule of thumb

    3) Place a piece of bread down over the top of this (white is best) and firmly stamp on it and ground it in with the heel of your shoe

    4) Finally, deposit some drops of jam around the spillages (this attracts ants which eat up the rest of the mess and the remains of oil absorbed within)

This method has been used successfully for many years, and is fully compliant with current Environment Agency doctrine.

Hope this is of some little help.
Try jeyes Fluid and a power washer.
Use dish soap, preferably grease cutting Joy, it will bring the oil to the surface and you can just hose it off. May take a tries but it does work.
Try a product called ';SpeedyDry'; available at car parts stores; you may also need to use some muriatic acid (but be careful - that stuff is wicked; it burns holes in clothes, skin and just about everything else!) Good luck!
You need oil dry granules , obtainable from a car parts supplier
Simple-Green or any citrus solvent will strip away oil and grease.
Just pour Cola over the oil stains leave overnight, (not diet) and brush off with hot soapy water the next day...or even better is to use a jet washer....tried and tested and works wonders.
Use washing powder %26amp; hot water and rub with a hard brush
http://mothers.com they carry the best also you can find it at the auto store nearby you.

Besides washing under cold water, Do you clean the mussels when you're cooking them?

place the LIVE mussels in a bowl covered with water and salt for at least an hour, the mussels will spit all the sand inside them...Besides washing under cold water, Do you clean the mussels when you're cooking them?
I scrub the shells with a stiff brush, unless they are the frozen green kind from New Zealand, which are already cleaned.Besides washing under cold water, Do you clean the mussels when you're cooking them?
Mussels must be thoroughly cleaned and rinsed several times before cooking.

Wild mussels will need to be scrubbed with a stiff brush to remove any barnacles, sand or grit and their beard must also be removed. This can be done by giving the beard a forceful tug with your fingers and pulling it away or by cutting it off with a small and sharp knife.

Rinse the wild mussels several times but do not let them sit in water, as freshwater will kill them.

Farmed mussels will have already been prepared for cooking and it will suffice to just give them a quick rinse under a running tap of cold water.
I also saw the episode of Barefoot Contessa that Melissa C above me saw. However, soak them in the water with flour for a short period of time and THEN pull of the beards just before you are ready to cook them.

Pulling off the beard immediately kills the mussel, so if you do this first it will not eat/take in the flour water and therefore it will not clean out the sand inside the mussel.
I just saw on the Barefoot Contessa show on the Foodnetwork tv yesterday she scrubs them, pulls off their ';beard'; and also soaks them in water with a little flour to get the sand out from the inside of the mussels.

What if i washed my ';dry clean recommended'; lace & cotton tank in the washing machine?

More than likely nothing will happen. Did you know that dry cleans soak dry clean only clothes. THe difference is that they use a chemical soultion instead of water. I machine wash everything that is dry cleanand have never ruined anything in 10 years. I use dreft on a cold gentle wash cycle, i do not let silks, cashmere or wool clothes spinout (it causes them to be mishapen. I had wring by folding flat on a clean white towel. Then roll in towel and press dry. I husuallyhit in dryer on low for 5-8 minutes then i hang on hanger if possible otherwise, i use a sweater drying rack. Dryel works great if it just needs a pick me up. Badly stained items I usually send to cleaners. or very decorative (buttons, sequins)What if i washed my ';dry clean recommended'; lace %26amp; cotton tank in the washing machine?
Thank you for asking that question because I needed to know also.

Some of the answers are very informative. Again Thanks! What if i washed my ';dry clean recommended'; lace %26amp; cotton tank in the washing machine?
It will more than likely shrink and go out of shape. You are better off to handwash it gently and then lay it on a flat surface in the shade.
heres my suggestion....get Woolite and hand wash the tank and hang it up to air dry
Dont, unless you want to ruin it. It will be limp and dull.
washing isn't bad...it's the drying that does the real damage....wash in the machine on gentle...with a mild detergent...and if your dryer has an 'air only' cycle...try that...otherwise you will have to air dry them naturally...just like we had to with woolens.

Can I wash the floor with vanish to clean and remove odor from dog urine?

I have a puppy at home that I'm still housebreaking; therefore, there are still some accidents in the room where she stays. Mostly during the night and in the few moments I'm not in the room with her (since I've been watching her almost 24hs to ';train'; her). I've been cleaning the floor with water, baking soda and a little vinegar. But that doesn't seem to be totally removing the odour, so she keeps going back to some spots. I am currently living abroad, and unfortunately, here, wasn't able to find any products with enzymes to clean it (such as Urine Gone or othes). So, I've been searching the web for homemade solutions/formulas, and some of them seem to contain hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which also seems to be the ingredient of the laundry product vanish. I take her out of the room for a couple of hours every time I clean it. And only bring her back after all is well rinsed, dried and while cleaning, I leave this room well ventilated. Should/Can I mix vanish with water to clean the floors? Would it help to remove the odour more effectively? I have marble floors, which I know should be washed only with plain water. But in this room, honestly, I don't care so much if there are some stains in the marble. Became her place, and it'll be. But I also would prefer to not complete destroy the marble. So, how bad is hydrogen peroxide, for marble? but will it help with the urine/poop odour? Sorry, very long and many questions in one...Can I wash the floor with vanish to clean and remove odor from dog urine?
The best thing for now is Soap and water, anything with Acid will only eat the Marble. I would suggest putting vinegar into a pail with warm soapy water. Vinegar will rid the smell preventing the puppy from going back to the same spot over and over again. Can I wash the floor with vanish to clean and remove odor from dog urine?
Hydrogen peroxide is in normal household bleach, it will get rid of the smell, and sanitise the floor.

Plus it is cheaper and easier to get hold of.
Go to the pet store and buy a good quality odour neutralizer! Don't use any of the stuff you have mentioned because it will not neutralize the smell and you dog will still go to that spot.
You don't need to buy expensive, special products. A simple bleach solution will kill bacteria and remove the odour. Good luck - and enjoy your new friend!
If you can find it in the shop, use ';Jeyes Fluid'; it is mixed with water and a very strong disinfectant.
No. You will ruin the finish on your floor. There is a product called Nok-Out that gets rid of the worst odors. Google it.
    try zoflora
If you have a soda syphon handy a quick spray with that neutralises the uric acid in urine.

Have you tried the ';Neutradol'; range of deodorisers?

The other possibility, if you have a Nursing Home close to where you are is to pop in and ask what products they use; I'm afraid that older and sick patients often have continence problems and this can be a real headache in the nursing situation

  • My dishwasher isn't washing or rinsing the dishes good and clean. What is wrong with it and how can I fix it?

If your water temperature is at least 120 degrees F. and the wash arms turn freely and the holes are not blocked and any screens or filters are not blocked you probably have a blockage in the sump which is difficult to get to and requires a qualified repair person to clean it out for you. I know this model and have encountered this problem on many occasion. My dishwasher isn't washing or rinsing the dishes good and clean. What is wrong with it and how can I fix it?
Can you tell us the make and model? Approx. age? ThanksMy dishwasher isn't washing or rinsing the dishes good and clean. What is wrong with it and how can I fix it?
slap her and tell her to get the job right the first time around!
Your husband drinks too many beers before, during and after dinner. Tell him he can only drink after his chores are done. This should correct the defect in the washing and drying cycles of your dishwasher and dryer. rainyday9113@yahoo.com
Check for clogs (debris, lime build up) in the holes on the spray arms. Especially if you ever had anything get broken in the machine, you could have pieces of glass blocking the sprayer arms from properly spraying. Or you can have bits of plastic if someone ever put something plastic in the bottom basket. Have had both happen. Had to use needle nose pliers to pull out the debris in the holes.
check to make sure that the thing that comes up is clearing all of your dishes and is able to come all of the way up!if your dishes are blocking it it cant spray all of them properly!check you drain and around the bottom of the thing that spins around to make sure its not caked up with trash and food, because it may not be able to suck the water in like it should to rinse them good!hope this helps!
for one thing check to make sure how you are loading it. Might sound kinda silly but tis a possiblity that all your big stuff is on the bottom and over crowded and the detergent / water isn't getting to all the dishes. second thing is to make sure your water holes in your spray arms are free of build up, run lime away in the dishwasher to fix this, will open orafices and create more water flow. third: check under sink to make sure your water lines to dishwasher are not crimped and have sufficient water flow.

**** after you added additional details it really does sound like your water flow is not appropriate to even dissolve the deterget from the dispenser or to rinse the soap from dishes. Do the limeaway trick, do a whole bottle of the stufff, can't hurt in any way shape or form. Just remember to run a couple of rinse cycles afterwards. Should do the trick.

Why do we wash the shower towels if we are always clean when we use them???

i'll tell you why. because MEN aren't that clean when they get out of the shower. How many men do you know use a washcloth or a loofah ? I don't know any. What doesn't fall off from a soap rubbing on the shower comes off on the towel. IF you let them go for awhile, you will be sure to smell it.

Look at your kitchen towels too. how many times does a man come and ';wash'; his hands and then you look at the dish towel and all the dirt is on the towel ?Why do we wash the shower towels if we are always clean when we use them???
because the water that is absorbed in the towel collects bacteria is a health risk. Why do we wash the shower towels if we are always clean when we use them???
    Good Question...hmmm...

I think its because when you dry your skin the towel picks up all the rest of stuff you didnt get clean...and then too it depends on how clean you bathe...soap?

I doubt that you'll be able to find a washer that can get out all the tough spots. Try spot treating with liquid detergent. Also, try presoaking--let the washer fill, then let it stand there for 30 minutes before you begin agitating.

Wat will happen if you never washed your hands in a dirty bathroom, also in a clean bathroom?

wat would happen if you did not clean your hands in a dirty bathroom and in a clean bathroom?i really want to know so please be kind and answer me.Wat will happen if you never washed your hands in a dirty bathroom, also in a clean bathroom?
Ewww, all those germs and bacteria just sit on your hands. Then, you'll get those germs on everything/everyone you touch. And if you have long nails, tiny bits of bodily fluids and germs can get under them. So if you went to the bathroom and then you got ice out for your drink or something, your germs would be in there. The next person who goes to get ice most likely will get some of your bacteria in their drink. And fecal matter has sooo much bacteria. That's why you MUST always wash your hands.

The flow of dirty water isn't enough. I used to think exactly that until I got a staph infection in my feet and couldn't walk, even though I showered every day. It healed but the doctor said your feet take such a beating that you have to scrub them down in every shower, especially between the toes.Do you wash your feet in the shower? doesnt the water and soap that runs over your feet clean it automaticall
all you need is some one really hot to give you a foot bath, first oils and rubbies then a cleaning...

feet need to be pampered too lol
Washing your feet with a wash cloth will help remove the dead skin that everybody gets on their feet
I don't wash my feet. The water and soap runnign over them does the trick LOL!
    !
You still need to rub them with something....like a brush or washcloth. Just like you rub other parts of your body when you wash!
You're right, so I don't try. But some times my feet don't get rinsed enough, that my feet get irriated.
    I wash my feet.
You better scrub them stinky suckers! Would you let the shampoo from your hair run over your body and not wash your body just because of the soap running over your body? I think not
i dunno i wash my feet anyways...but it's upto you not like anyone gonna check if you washed your feet
    That's what I always figured, but once in awhile I will scrub them good...do the foot spa routine...lol, ';I just pee on them.';
no - it just runs dirty and clean water over it - your feet need to be scrubbed - and dried - otherwise you may get fungus - yup - fungus.

  • Can I wash an eye glasses cleaning cloth? Will it ruin it?

I have one of those cloths that are especially made to clean your glasses... but I've been using it for a long time. Can I throw it in the wash, or will this ruin the ';magic'; that it contains for drying off your glasses so well?

:) ThanksCan I wash an eye glasses cleaning cloth? Will it ruin it?
If you've been using the cloth for a long time it will work better if you do wash it regularly. Someone mentioned throwing it in the wash, and that's OK, but I prefer doing it by hand in the sink. Use a dish washing liquid like Dawn, something without added lotions and moisturizers. This will help remove any oils on the cloth and won't leave any residue that can leave your lenses smeary. Rinse well, let the cloth air dry and you're good to go.Can I wash an eye glasses cleaning cloth? Will it ruin it?
i have one too, and had the same question, anything other than that cloth will scratch my lenses, you would think by now they would invent glasses that dont scratch if you clean them using any type of towel, or cloth, my best answer is, lets get contacts, or go for the surgery .
You can wash it in the washing machine, but do not use bleach, or fabric softener of any kind. It's best to let it air dry.

Why do we wash bath towels when we only use them when we are clean?

If you had seen some of the stains after my family have used them, you wouldn't ask that question. Why do we wash bath towels when we only use them when we are clean?
because they end up smelling all musty and damp if you dont .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Why do we wash bath towels when we only use them when we are clean?
Towels get wet when we dry off with them and they pick up particles of dry dead skin, and hair. Before they dry there is the opportunity for organisms to grow on the towels. If they don't get washed after a while they start to stink.
i thought this today as i was about to wash the bath towels....if you had kids you would soon realise that the dirt doesn`t come off in the water, only on nice clean white towels.
    cause they would stink otherwise!!!!!
cos all the dead skin cells are attached an after a week or so will start to pen an ink
    Wet towels are bacteria heaven.
When you wipe down after a shower you are putting your dead skin cells still atached to you onto your towel, what ever was not washed down the drain after getting squeeky clean, or so we all thought. It just works that way.

    cheers
humidity, and where you trow them gets them dirty. plus, of course we are not as clean as u think!
We can never get all the bacteria off of our skin thus where does it go after bathing....yep..on the bath towels. If you don't believe me , stop washing your towel for a few days..let it dry, reuse , reuse, reuse. It will start to stink and you may also land up with some nice itchy rashes.
Trust me, if it's been round my husbands **** there is no way I am not washing it!!!
Another silly question ';Do only dirty people bath';?
If they are not dried quick enough the will start to smell....we also can sweat when just out of the bath and this also adds to the smell, so i will always wash mine......
Gross!! All that dead skin and everything.
because they start to smell lol
Wet materials start smelling unless there washed
Did you think of \the wisecrack yourself or pinch it from somewhere?
because they get wet and collect bacteria, mold and mildew pours from the air and surfaces that they touch that aren't clean and then they start to smell
Because everytime you hang them to dry, especially if you live in a humid area, they can get skin cells stuck to them %26amp; then the mold, %26amp; other grugies in the world stuck to them.
Bath towels are wet after you dry off. Depending on how you hang them to dry they can retain bacteria or others fungi. Don't forget wet items can become moldy and smelly.
..because they dry very intimate places....
are you for real!!!! what about all the dead skin cells that rub off when you dry,,,yuck
OK, number one person uses it, dabs face, neck, under arms. wipes top of body, lower half, all the crevices, personal places, in between toes etc., leaves towel to dry ready for next person.

Now if you are person number two, are you seriously happy to start drying your face, knowing all the other places that towel has been, even if its some one you know and love??? No I did not think so.

If I dry clean my beautifully BLACK jeans will they stay black longer than machine washing?

I need to know before I summon them to cold water and a fading dryer! If I dry clean my beautifully BLACK jeans will they stay black longer than machine washing?
cleaners use lots of heat and that helps fade the colors too, however, definitely longer than washing

washing in cold water hanging the jeans out to dry inside out might protect them longerIf I dry clean my beautifully BLACK jeans will they stay black longer than machine washing?
I don't know about the dry cleaners, I just washed my black jeans inside out in cold wash, I am sure I wore them out before they faded, I wore them to work.
    try handwashing them
Wash them inside out in cold water and hang them to dry. Or, wash them inside out by hand and hang them to dry. Use a gentle detergent. Drycleaning is expensive - you might as well buy another pair of pants with that money.
Water is what fades fabrics. If you take your black jeans to the dry cleaners all the time, they will never fade, never.

No matter how many times I wash ';myself';.. I still don't come clean...?

Ok, I'm uncircumcised, and I always wash myself when I shower.. but, no matter what I do, my penis is still light brown, as if it's dirty... [I'm Caucasian btw..] What can I do to make ';myself'; look as it should? No matter how many times I wash ';myself';.. I still don't come clean...?
It's just your skin color, doesn't mean it's not clean.

Some parts of your body, especially... ahem... dangling parts, can have more melanin in the skin than other parts, and also, the penis is full of blood vessels, capillaries, and spongy tissue, and the extra blood beneath the thin skin layer can also make your skin appear darker. No matter how many times I wash ';myself';.. I still don't come clean...?
It's perfectly normal to have varying amounts of skin pigment there. Don't worry about it. In fact, unless you're particularly fair skinned and don't tan then you're almost guaranteed to have darker skin there.

Even cut guys have it, you can often see a difference in skin tone before and after the scar.
I don't believe Caucasians have brown penis color, only Asians do. It might have something to do with a lichen complex, but if there's no irritation of any kind, just ignore it.
My husband's penis is slightly darker than the rest of him. I'm going to go with the Anna's answer about why that is. Makes sense to me.
Just paint it yellow and draw a happy face on it. No one will see the brown.
i am milk white and my penis is light brown 2 thats just your skin color.
stop playing with it so ruffly your bruising it
grody dude. idk? get some lava soap

Is it advisable to use alcohol to wash my hands prior to cleaning my contact lenses?

I couldn't say for sure, but I expect it may not be a great idea. Alcohol will dry your skin and that could lead to scratching the lenses I would imagine.

  • My washing machine is broken, I don't have any money, and I need some clean clothes?

What is the best way to get clothes really clean? Does handwashing work well?My washing machine is broken, I don't have any money, and I need some clean clothes?
Before washing machines are invented, people have been handwashing their clothes. I believe handwashing acually clean cloths better.

Here are some tips from someone who had to hand wash his cloths for 15 years.

    1. Get a big bin. Soak your cloths in laundry detergent for an hour or so, it helps losen the dirt.

    2. Get a medium soft large brush, start brush each cloths down where the most dirty areas are. Armpits, neck, collars, pockets, cuffs. After brushing, squeez them out a bit and pile them somewhere.

    3. Discard the soap water out of the bin, fill it up with clean water. Start rinsing your cloths one by one and lightly squeezing them out and piling them somewhere. Discard the water, filled it up again and repeat the procedure 2 more times.

    4. After the third rinse, all the soap shoud be gone. Give them a good squeeze to take out the excess water.

    5. Line dry them in indirect Sun.My washing machine is broken, I don't have any money, and I need some clean clothes?
I would ask a friend or relative if I could wash at their house. In exchange you could help them clean up around their house or fix them dinner or offer to babysit for them one night.
    Besides hand washing or laundramette....

go to http://www.freecycle.org/ and find your local freecycle.

It's a place where people offer free stuff such as appliances they no longer need ect, and other people post ';wanteds';. Great for emergencies or temorary solutions.

It's pretty neat. I got once a complete Nintendo64 with games for my kids, who collect. And I've offered a sewing machine and a lawn mower on there.

    Good luck
handwashing works fine! fill your tub with water and detergent swish it around a bit (ESPECIALLY IF ITS POWDER DETERGENT) add clothes swish some more let them sit for 10 min or so then individually scrub each article by hand.
you can handwash and then hang to dry. not sure cause if my machines are broken i just use someone else's i know or go to the laundrymat.
use a friend or relatives washer
Yes. Just fill your sink or tub with water and use your detergent or some dish-washing liquid. Let them soak and if you see dirty spots rub the material together to scrub it out. Rinse. Dry. And should be good to go!

    Hope this helps!
laundry mat!get some quarters and some clothes and go to a laundry mat!its not that hard!

    have fun!
HAND WASHING YOUR LAUNDRY WILL GET THEM CLEAN, BUT WILL REQUIRE A LOT OF HARD WORK. TO MAKE THINGS A LITTLE EASIER BE SURE TO PRE-SOAK STAINED CLOTHES FOR AT LEAST 15 MIN. YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE YOUR TIME AND PUT A LOT OF ';ELBOW GREASE'; INTO IT. BE SURE TO FOCUS ON ONE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING AT THE TIME. FOR CLOTHES THAT ARE NOT DELICATE YOU CAN USE A SOFT BRISTLED BRUSH TO GET THE TOUGH SPOTS.MOST IMPORTANT, RINSE, RINSE, RINSE. REMEMBER YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO CLEAN YOUR CLOTHES USING DIRTY WATER.

MOST OF US HAVE BEEN IN THIS SITUATION AT SOME POINT OR ANOTHER IN OUR LIVES. I HOPE THINGS GET BETTER FOR YOU.
why dont u get 1 of your mates to come round and look at it 4 u that way it will be cheaper and exchange it for what they want 2 do e.g. take than out 4 dinner or help them tidy their house 4 them
    Try a laundrymat??
just handwash, it's not that hard
Handwashing is good...be sure to rinse well...or use a friend's washing machine.
You might try the Salvo's or some other org,They might be able to help you, if not, they will tell you who might be able to.

Is it better to dye your hair when you hair is clean or on hair that hasnt been washed for a few days?

Someone told me that it was better to dye your hair on hair that hadn't been washed for a few days as the colour will take better. Is this true or is it complete cr*p??Is it better to dye your hair when you hair is clean or on hair that hasnt been washed for a few days?
This has worked out the best for me.

Wash your hair out, and put very little or no styling product into the hair, then just brush or put up the hair however you like for a few days.

It's not so much the products that are in your hair as the natural repairing-oils from your scalp.

Also, if you dye your hair right after you wash it, your scalp will burn and tinge more than if you had left it alone, and I'm not sure if it can actually happen, but my mom claims she actually got a blister on her scalp once.

So, I advise you, don't dye your hair right after washing. :)Is it better to dye your hair when you hair is clean or on hair that hasnt been washed for a few days?
This is true, clean hair will not hold in the dye as well because shampoo puts a protective coat on our hair. Leaflets in hair dye packets do also advise not to put dye on clean hair, for best results leave it for about 3 days if you can. Good luck!
Well, when I worked in a hairdressers we never advised on either, so long as the hair is dry, that's all we were concerned with. some people had washed their hair that day, some had done it the day before
It's true, hair dye takes better on dirty hair, like 2 days, it doesn't have to be super dirty. When it's clean it's almost like the dye has nothing to stick to. The hairdressers would tell you the same :)
its true, if your hair hasnt been washed for a few days the colour takes better, but the natural oils also protect the hair from the harsh chemicals
Most home dyes say use on dry unwashed hair.
    it is true.

How often should you get a leather jacket cleaned/washed?

I only wear it in the winter, and have had it for about 4yrs, it still smells like what it smelt like when I first got it.How often should you get a leather jacket cleaned/washed?
Wipe off any soiling as it happens or as soon as you can. The is absolutely no need to arbitraraly clean leather if it is not soiled, and you have more chance of doing harm than good with the number of leaners that are improperly pH balance for garment grade leather, or home remedy solutions that are as bad or worse ( just about everyone seems to suggest saddle soap and it is terrible to use on anything but saddlery grade leather) A Cleaner who doesnt know what he is doing can damge and stiffen jackets.

Leather only needs to be conditioned when it is not soiled. Lexol is one product, or we have our own that we make http://www.advleather.com ( we make cleaners and I'm telling you you dont have to clean, so I'm not trying to get business, just help)

    Best wishes

DavidHow often should you get a leather jacket cleaned/washed?
ive always washed ours when ever they need it. and even then its just in small areas. but i agree with the first guy...once a year would be good. as long as they are pros and have what is needed to clean it.
I've heard that for average wear, once a year is good. And I take mine to my cleaners, but I made sure they were euipped to handle real leather. No problems out of mine!

Xeros in London is selling a washing machine that uses 1 cup of water. Can clothes get clean with 1 cup water?

Yes actually, it uses plastic chips to absorb the dirt that the water loosens from the clothes.

Its quite fascinating really.Xeros in London is selling a washing machine that uses 1 cup of water. Can clothes get clean with 1 cup water?
I'm sure a thong could get clean from that...maybe my kids sock...? Does it steam clean the clothes? That's all I can think of.

If you're clean after having a bath, than why must you wash the towel? :D?

there is bacterial living on your skin all the time and when you finish the shower that bacteria transfers to your towel, DOOOOO....If you're clean after having a bath, than why must you wash the towel? :D?
To get to the other side................Is this a joke or a riddle? If you're clean after having a bath, than why must you wash the towel? :D?
They stink after awhile if you don't wash them.
you think u r clean but the towel faces the brunt of your filth
not only bacteria but also mold spores. both can make you sick.
Bactereia accumulates after a few bath times.
because towels get dirty by being exposed to the environment.
How can you be clean if you take a bath and you're lying in your own dirt. Showering is better...but bacteria still remains...Wash your towel!!!

Why is it that everytime you get a car wash, these damn sea gulls only find your clean car to dump on...?

...and it looks like some one spilled a pint of milk on it. what should we do about this. why cant our leaders understand we need to get them diapers or something, or do you think the guys involved in car wash business make deals with sea gulls on the side. i used to think they target black cars or darker color cars but NOOO its actually the cars that just get a car wash...whats your take on this guys. i want to hear especially from those who have been victims of these stupid sea gulls/dove's and other birds ?...Explain!!...car washes are not cheap now a days. we average spending atleast $10.00 there. Why is it that everytime you get a car wash, these damn sea gulls only find your clean car to dump on...?
I feel for you! I live at the beach, so it's a daily occurrence I assure you. I swear they are Condors and not Seagulls, by the amount of crap they can drop during one fly by. I have my truck washed every Friday ($10) too by the way, by Saturday morning, I'm washing off a 6'x6', splatter. I almost celebrate on the days that I get one little sparrow poop on the hood.......Why is it that everytime you get a car wash, these damn sea gulls only find your clean car to dump on...?
Thank you so much and enjoy your evening! Report Abuse

They most likely made a pact with the car washers :) And they must really love your car.

  • When washing clothes what is the best was to get white clothes clean or get them as white as possible?

You should be able to restore your clothes to white (and not damage the fibres of the fabric) by soaking them them in lukewarm water and color safe or oxygen bleach for 24 hours, then rinse them with vinegar and water. Use one tablespoon of vinegar to one quart of water. After treating them overnight, wash them in hot water with chlorine bleach added. This should refresh them to their original white state. If possible, dry them in the sun...When washing clothes what is the best was to get white clothes clean or get them as white as possible?
warm water and blueWhen washing clothes what is the best was to get white clothes clean or get them as white as possible?
Do whites seperate - use bleach but make sure you read the directions as bleach is very strong....don't mix colors when you do that load.
well u can boil them in hot water in a special pot or leave them in oxy clean for a couple of days no clorox because clorox makes the clothes tun yellow and make sure that the water u use to leave the clothes in is really hot
    hot water and LIQUID bleach.
    Hot Water and Powdered Bleach.
I heard that if you add Borax to you washer, It makes the clothes come much cleaner.
Whites alone - - no colors.

    1) hot or warm wash. Rinse of any temperature.

    2) add powdered water softener (I use Calgon)

    3) add bleach (not frequently on clothes with elastic)

    4) laundry detergent

    or

    Do 1) %26amp; 2) with Borax

Frequent bleaching can yellow clothes and can damage elastic.
Wash only with other whites and use a good quality biological washing powder

Why do we wash bath towels - aren't we clean when we use them?

GOOOOOD question. But I guess there is enough residual skin being sloughed off to build up a little bit of a microscopic mess. I personally advocate using the towel a wee bit longer than my more fussy spouse. I am particularly amused by the towel for sale in some mail order catalogs that has the words ';face'; on one end and ';butt'; on the other. I think that would help extend the life of the towel quite a bit longer. Why do we wash bath towels - aren't we clean when we use them?
yeah but our towels aren't. plus if we're just out of the shower, our pores are open. so if there's dirt on the towel, then it can get back into your pores. Why do we wash bath towels - aren't we clean when we use them?
Have you ever looked at a bath towel or a hand towel after its been used for a couple of days?

We may be clean when we use em but water can leave marks - especially on lite colored towels.
Some people don't .. they like wipe three week old butt crust, mold, fungus and other moisture loving bacteria all over their faces and body when they dry off .. :)

Umm No .. I am not one of them .. (points to the ex)
Some don't wash it for weeks and others wash it after they smell bad already. lol

All things become dirty, even men. Like those dirty old men.

    just kidding
cuz after it gets wet, even if it air dries, after a couple times, it starts to stink
    laughing
We're mostly clean, but not totally sterile... Would you want to use a used towel from someone else? Enough said.
We never wash all the bacteria off our bodies no matter how much we scrub. The bacteria gets on the towels as we dry off. It starts to grow in the moist air and smell. The moisture also helps to set the stage for mold to grow on it to.
Its about the dead skin cells you rub off after your shower. They accumulate and become disgusting.
Yes, we are clean when we use them, but clean is a relative statement. When you use a towel, you rub even more mass off of your body. Combined with the water, your wasted body mass will begin to stink.
Yes we are but when you leave it hanging there after you get out of the shower.Fungus gets attracted to the constant moisture from the towel. So thats why we wash it.Think about it.Too many bugs/germs get attracted to that ****.
Yes but water and air don't mix. Actually they do, and it's what they mix with is what we want to wash.
    because they get smelly
yes, but the humidity makes it smelly lol so thats why they have to be washed
All that moisture on the towel could turn into mildew over time and I don't think you'd want to use that towel to clean yourself.
I've never really understood it either, but after they are wet and dry after so many times they do tend to get a stale smell.
    i dont know... weird.
because the damp towels are partial to mildew and bacteria
When we dry ourselves with a towel after a bath, we rub off millions of dead skin cells.
    eeeew.

You shed dead skin cells and bacteria onto those towels, and that can build up real fast.

My kitten had diarrhea for a day and I need to know how to clean her.I washed her but it doesn't come out.

My kitten had diarrhea all down her butt and legs. I washed her backend with human shampoo . But she has long hair and now it is clumped together.

She is over the diarrhea .I can't find cat shampoo. I can't brush or comb her hair back the way it was.I washed her again thinking maybe I left shampoo in her hair but it didn't help. She still might have poo in her hair , Her hair is light brown so I can' tell. What lse can I use to clean her.My kitten had diarrhea for a day and I need to know how to clean her.I washed her but it doesn't come out.
you can probally find cat shampoo at your local pet store or places like wal-mart, or k-mart should carry it..wash her again with cat shampoo in warm water leave the lather on for about 5 minutes or as long as possbile ( It isn't easy bathing a cat). and rince from the head back so that when you rince the back end it won't get on the rest of her body, avoid using human bathing products on animals..they have very sentive skin and their hair will look poor also. at a last resort (i know it sounds funny but trust me) you could spray a little shaving cream on the spots where she has had diarrhea in her hair and massage the hair like you were using shampoo and rince it clean..I am unsure why but this usually works....usually the far fetched ideas work the best...

good luckMy kitten had diarrhea for a day and I need to know how to clean her.I washed her but it doesn't come out.
The problem with human shampoos is that they strip out the oils in cat's fur and leave it matted and 'icky' looking. A few days of leaving it alone and it will get back to it's normal look. Believe me, she will groom it until she likes it.

Best way to to trim her fur if you want to- there is a trick to it unless you have electric clippers-

You want to comb into her hair, under the matts and leave the comb there- and trip on top of the comb- that way the comb protects her skin- cat skin picks up easy and gets tagged by scissoring allot.

Also, a slicker brush may get all the tangles and poo out. Look at the pet store.

When you are done, aloe baby wipes are really good for cleaning kitten rears.
Use a small amount of conditioner, and be sure to rinse well.

I've always been able to get my cat clean with soap and warm water. But she grumbles while I do it.
Try using Palolive dish soap and a fine tooth comb. That should do it! If not you should just trim her hair and you could always keep it trim around her butt so you dont have this problem in the future.
If you have already tried shampooing her and can't get it all out I would suggest giving her a trimback there and it would not take long for the new hair to grow.Thats what I would do.
Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap. Or trim the hair on her backend.
Baby wipes work great and it won't be too harsh for the kitten's skin. I have two adult cats and I clean them with a wipe once per month or so and they both love it!

What is the best way to clean horse manure off of the side of the wooden stalls? I am power-washing them.?

I am using the power washer, but it is so slow. I would like to know something to put on the ';manure'; first to help remove it. I do not want to deal with suds though. No more horses so I want it to be clean enough to just use for storage with no smell. What is the best way to clean horse manure off of the side of the wooden stalls? I am power-washing them.?
You could try white vinegar. Spray it onto the manure. Vinegar is a great cleaner, and deodorizer, plus it kills germs, is natural and has no suds. The vinegar smell dissipates as it dries.

Why do we wash bath towels? Aren't we clean when we use them?

They sit around collecting dust all day long. And they're damp when they're sitting around collecing dust. And there are skin cells and possibly bacteria in the fibers. It may not be much, but how much bacteria do you want sitting in a damp towel for a week?

    You get it now?

My washing machine keeps leaving black marks on my clothes. How do I clean my machine?

try filling your machine with water (HOT) and about two cups of bleach. Run it through a cycle. Also, look down on the wringer, you may have a part come loose . ONLY check this when the machine is NOT running. Mine did this and then just quit doing it. Something may be in your washer, check all the wash tub around the edges ,under the rim etc. GOOD LUCK!My washing machine keeps leaving black marks on my clothes. How do I clean my machine?
MY MOTHERINLAWS IS DOING THE SAME. wHEN IT STARTS TO DO THAT, YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED TO INVEST IN ANOTHER ONE-b/C IF U DONT, THEN IT WILL PROLLY COST ALOT TO FIX/My washing machine keeps leaving black marks on my clothes. How do I clean my machine?
I had that problem too! It was awful! All my clothes were ruined but it was in the dryer. The wheels on the drum one was broken aand one was loose- My husband took apart teh drum- replaced the wheels and the dryer no longer left the black marks( which you cannot get out of clothes- So your drum is loose in the washing machine.
Mine did that a few years ago... there is a greased fitting under the agitator that allows it to spin freely. The nut that holds the agitator in place slipped off and that caused the agitator (the white part in the middle of the drum) to raise slightly and expose that grease. As the drum turned my clothes wrapped around it and got stained. This is how I fixed it...

    1. UNPLUG IT!!! Might be an overkill, but better safe than sorry!

    2. remove the front panel (each model is different, but mine had some screws on the bottom edge)

    3. find the missing nut

    4. put some ';Lock tight'; (available at any hardware store) on it and replace the nut

It only took about 15 minutes and it was a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a new machine!

  • Is praying a way of washing your sins of the day clean?

as we all should be cleaning in here and out there inshAllah.

    Stakeedekum, al Salat!

Archers Ready! Is praying a way of washing your sins of the day clean?
Praying is a way of having a one on one connection with Allah(swt) it's like having a conversation with your Creator on a daily basis but praying salat is so we won't forget our mission in this world and that Allah(swt) won't forget about us. Praying is also the cure for depression. Is praying a way of washing your sins of the day clean?
no...praying is the way of asking forgiveness of the sins u committed during the day... as well as to establish a personal relationship with ur god ...trust %26amp; honesty...that sort of thing

If we are clean after we take a shower, why do we still have to wash our towels?

cuz you are a stinky pooIf we are clean after we take a shower, why do we still have to wash our towels?
Because we rub off a lot of dead skin when we towel dry, and it gets stuck on the towel and then molds and then stinks if we don't wash them.If we are clean after we take a shower, why do we still have to wash our towels?
Cause the towel goes around your balls and your ***. Would you want to dry off the next day and get a pubic hair in your mouth?

I do everything for my spouse, I cook every night, I wash there clothes, I help clean the house.?

I support my spouse in everything they do, I am there to listen, and give advice. I dont come home late, I dont go out. Only with my cousin and thats to the movies, or sports. Which is rare, because someone gets upset at any fun I have without them. We have great times, when times are good. But when they get bad. There is no communication. What advice. We both have a relationship with God. we go to church, her father is the Pastor. I do want her to cook and clean. But she says im tired I go to work, We both work full time. In our mid 20's. Married 10 mos, together 3 yrs. I kinda got married because one, I was tired of sinning. And two she said she would help out more and lose weight, knowing it was forever.. Well nothing has changed. I was raised by my mom. So i know how to treat a women, and clean and cook. But I dont want this. She is 5 yrs Older.

    Thanks for the Advice.

GBI do everything for my spouse, I cook every night, I wash there clothes, I help clean the house.?
In the age we live in both husband and wife work and both cook and clean. You might work it our where you cook and she cleans. You might both do your own laundry. Sit down and discuss who's going to do what. Everyone should carry his/her share of the load.I do everything for my spouse, I cook every night, I wash there clothes, I help clean the house.?
if you both go to church and her dad is the pastor then why don't you both talk to him unless you believe he will side with her of course,if you love her and want to stay married to her then you need to get help other wise this will consume you like fire you need to fill like a husband not a maid

good luck to you and Gb
why do you need a woman, you are practically a woman yourself
What you needed was counseling before you got married. With out communication nothing can be solved. Sounds like you both need an outside counselor.
You need to do a couple things. First of all, maybe building up some more trust might let you go out more. Start coming home exactly on time and calling if something happens. Always be open about what's going on, give her more info then she asks for. Or you may need to talk to her about her trust issues.

You also need to have a talk with her about sharing the chores. Be understanding, but firm and don't act like you do eveything (even if its true, she may get insulted and you may lose the oppurtunity for her to help at all). Say something like ';I know you're tired when you get home from work, but I am too and I need you to help with my chores. If we split them up we'll be doing less work and we'll accomplish more.'; Split them up as fairly as possible, giving each person an equal amount of work, and try to pick based on what you each like to do or don't mind doing.

For instance, maybe she likes cooking more then you, or maybe you need to find meals that are easier to make (boxed meals or simple baked chicken kind of stuff) that you can make together or one person can make in a short amount of time.

Also, don't press her to lose weight. Guys are jerks about that stuff. Don't EVER tell her she needs to lose weight - let her be the one to say it. Just be supportive, don't buy tempting foods and eat diet food with her (get your fill of bad stuff at work or something). You may have to ';lose weight'; with her, by eating the same foods and excercising with her. You could probably lose a few anyways (almost everyone does lol).

If this doesn't help. Seek out some counseling - don't go to her dad the priest he isn't impartial and he shouldn't know your business. Try an impartial person to mediate or a marriage counselor. This will work between you, but you need to have constructive talks without judging or getting angry.

    Best of luck.
Getting married because you are tired of ';sinning'; is no reason to get married. I suppose you know this by now.

People do not develop cleaning habits as adults (usually). Cleaning habits are like any other habit...it is learned as a person ages. Learned behavior sticks. She isn't going to clean if you are around to do it for her. She isn't going to lose weight, she has no reason to. She is married now and that is ';forever';. You have to love her regardless, why should she bother?

If her father is the pastor that is a particularly nasty situation to be embroiled in. You deserve to have good clean fun with whoever you choose to be friends with. Insecurity has no place in a marriage. Here is where trust comes in.

You don't sound happy. People either grow together or they grow apart. There is NO shame in growing apart and there is NO shame in making mistakes..even when they are big, life changing mistakes. God knows that we all make mistakes, that is why Jesus was sent to die on the cross...to help remind us that the mistakes that we made were forgiven and absolved before we ever even made them. If this marriage isn't right for you and you are miserable, God knows about it. He has a plan for all of us and sometimes we don't see that plan because things are in our path blocking our view. The woman God may have in mind for you may not be your current wife. God doesn't want us to suffer and be miserable. He doesn't want us to feel pushed down or walked over. He wants us to be strong and happy. Find your way to be strong and happy be that in a marriage or in a divorce.

If you are not in love with the woman no amount of counseling is going to ';fix'; that. Listen to your heart. God gave it to you for a reason. He uses our hearts to guide us. It sounds to me like your wife has some things to learn about give and take and she isn't going to learn them if you continue to carry all the weight. Best of luck to you. :)
I mean no harm but your wife is lazy. First you all have a communication problem that you need to straighten out. Once you do that you need to sit down and talk and comes to a common territory. You need to find someone to talk to in this case not your pastor since he is your father-in-law. He maybe a little bias since that wld be his little girl. Second, I think she kinda told you what she know you wanted to hear to get you to marry her. Second prayer is a wonderful and powerful thing. The old saying goes '; A FAMILY THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.

    Have a wonderful day!
well i am sorry you are going though this. but it's should be equal. you do work too. you should tell her that. tell her she need to change and do stuff for you. or you guys can cook together. it's fun to do that. but you need to have a serious talk with her and put your foot down. if she doesnt want to change then move on. you dont need that stuff in your life. good luck and i hope this help.
Leave. If it is one sided then leave.
You, my dear, are one in a million! Any women would be blessed to be married to you. Keep your faith and the lord will lead you.If you did divorce you wouldn't be alone for long.
